House Bill 37, an attempt to vilify abortion providers and disrupt medical standards of care was tabled on Thursday March 2 by the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee after several hours of testimony, presentations, “experts” and oration by committee members who were also co-sponsors of the bill, forcing the committee Chair to adjourn with out hearing the remaining bills on the agenda.

This afternoon, the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee just announced that they would hear the remaining bills, HB 220 and HB 221 on SUNDAY, MARCH 5 at 10 am! One would ban abortion later in pregnancy, the other would force young people to notify their parents if they need access to abortion.

We need you to show up and send a message: As people of faith and as New Mexicans, we believe in loving our neighbors, and treating one another as we would like to be treated-with dignity and respect. This means recognizing that the decision to have an abortion is deeply personal and should be left to a woman, her family, and her doctor, in consultation with her faith.

Legislative committee hearings are subject to time, date, and/or room change. So please RSVP here so we can notify you of any change!

Can’t make it up to Santa Fe? Call your representative and tell them that to oppose House Bill 220 and House Bill 221. Tell them: “It is time to end all attempts to interfere in a woman’s deeply private medical decisions about abortion and leave them in the capable hands of a woman, her family and her doctor, in consultation with her faith.”

House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee:
Chairman Eliseo Lee Alcon
Vice Chair Patricia Roybal Caballero
Representative Deborah A. Armstrong
